While I’ve come to the University yesterday, I started to watch the TV that was installed on the bus. It was newness a short time ago but at that time, I think, it was just me who was watching it. I’ve seen the useless, alienated and boring information that they put into that set of programs. There was some tips like “how to let your nail much more cute” and, “how let your cloth softest” and “how to be polite in your diner”. I couldn’t not think about the waste of time that was the development of the television in our society. I’ve begun to think about the potential of this equipment and how it could have changed the world we live.
The TV give us the incredible potential of communicate whit all the people around the world and we let this in hands of people that just think and use their creative capacity to discover how to sell more and more.
The historiographers had been saying constantly: if the Alexandria´s library hadn´t get fired, the humanity will be many centuries forwarded. I think we can tell the same about the TV: if the television had been used to spread knowledge to all the people in the world since 1928, when it was created, we will be too many centuries forwarded. The governments could have applied it to the public education giving to all the people who wanted a chance to change it life.
Of course that there are many programs better than that at television but if these was made to be educative they are the exception that proves the rule. Many times these programs try to be just a little “instructive”. The bus´ TV try to do this, but it had fallen into the habitual mistake of think that the public can’t pay attention in a program really educative, whit information that could truthfully change their life and not just their nail.
Now we have the internet. The possibilities to improve the world will always came to us, thanks our great creativity but I´m afraid that we will need a little more of will power to put into practice all we need.
*It´s one more exercise to my english. Yeah, I know I need get better…
but, for now!
Sucess!
